The challenge: A
leading US investment bank needed to build a sustainable back office
function in the Asia Pacific region. The client had a short timeline
to grow the unit substantially and to extend and upgrade its capabilities
whilst also focussing on cost efficiencies. This involved ensuring
that the local employees rose to more senior positions thus releasing
the expensive ex-patriate population. The firm needed to create a culture
conducive to high performance that absorbed the best of both the local
culture and the bank’s culture whilst mitigating against the
worst.
The solution: In order to achieve this
end result, there was a need for all parties to re-examine their values
and approaches, in order that something new could be created. It was
perceived that this could only be done with external coaching and facilitation.
A programme was devised that began with a workshop designed to examine
the senior team’s perceptions and cultural norms and what they
considered possible in the region. |
This crystallised into a commitment
to a new vision and way of working that was agreed throughout the division.
The process was supported by intensive coaching of the senior team
on a one to one basis and as a team. A series of workshops for more
junior staff was devised to help them embrace the new culture and develop
the skills required.
The result: The
intervention delivered against all the objectives, and further more,
was a major success factor when the bank decided to move the bulk of
its operations to another part of the region. The Project Team Coaching
ensured that the senior team maintained a new way of working, despite
extraordinary
circumstances. Back |
